Easton Production Alliances

Greetings Easton Citizen,

This is an ideas development project, run by Firstborn Creatives in partnership with Knowle West Media Centre and Calling the Shots.

The theme of the project is "Passport to....", inspired by the 1949 Ealing comedy, 'Passport to Pimlico'. In this film the London borough of Pimlico is revealed to be an independent state, after an ancient document is discovered that proves it to be foreign territory.

We will be running workshops with groups in Easton, Bristol based on the central question:

"How would you like to see things if Easton became an independent state?"

Come along to the first session at Easton Community Centre on June 27th at 7.15pm, to find out how you can get involved. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!

We will be running 5 sessions with a number of groups before the summer holidays, and then another 5 to be run before December with the same groups, after exchanging ideas with Knowle West and Calling The Shots.

The project is to look for ways of working with the many voices and creative people of Easton and Knowle West, to develop workable ideas into a mainstream media production.

Join in the chat forum and give your opinions.

- What about education, jobs, faith and religion, crime and punishment, youth, elders?

- What about your currency, your immigration or even emmigration policy?

- What about culture, arts and creativity, censorship?

- Will Easton have a leader or will in be a co-operative?

- How will decisions be made?

So what do you say?

You can also email us at; indy_easton@yahoo.co.uk

Will be great meeting with you, fellow Citizen!

easton a country divided by 34 languages! shall we all learn english (seems sensible to me) or shall we learn a new one that is made up of all ours?

From:

When we get to make laws I want a law passed that makes ENGLISH a first language, one and only no foreign speak and absolutly NO swearing. If you want to talk foreign or dirty then go make your own country.

From:

i did not mean that only english should be spoken (swearing separate issue) we should celebrate the different languages and cultural differences, be proud of our unique qualities, but, a common language so we can communicate is, i feel, essential, i suggest english, selfishly, because i can speak it. be interesting to have some stats on what languages are most commonly used in easton..........

If Easton were independent, I would hope it would be run by a panel of Eastonites who represented it's actual geographic make up. And the
elderly, children and young adults were thought of,catered for and consulted in all decisions to make Easton a place with a strong grasp of its past and healthy vision of its future. Also it would generate its own power, by sustainable means. The three most used languages would be taught in schools(run in the community by the community), to young and old a like. We could all bring our differences together to make a truly unique free state.

where will the borders be for this Easton state? north, east, south and west. is lawrence hill included?

From:
hendy

i would say no to lawrence hill but it would be good to establish a definate boundary and to know border points

If Easton was a state I'd want nothing to do with it. If it was a self-organised community based on rights, responsibilities, mutual aid and autonomy then I'd be interested. Setting up a new state to replace the old one is just a waste of time. We need to move on, beyond borders, boundaries and incoherent concepts of nations & national language. If we dont we'll just replicate the existing problems and mindsets.

From:
Tim

tim, does that mean you would go into self exile? would you campaign from the 'outside' that it should lose its independence?
