Easton Production Alliances

Greetings Easton Citizen,

This is an ideas development project, run by Firstborn Creatives in partnership with Knowle West Media Centre and Calling the Shots.

The theme of the project is "Passport to....", inspired by the 1949 Ealing comedy, 'Passport to Pimlico'. In this film the London borough of Pimlico is revealed to be an independent state, after an ancient document is discovered that proves it to be foreign territory.

We will be running workshops with groups in Easton, Bristol based on the central question:

"How would you like to see things if Easton became an independent state?"

Come along to the first session at Easton Community Centre on June 27th at 7.15pm, to find out how you can get involved. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!

We will be running 5 sessions with a number of groups before the summer holidays, and then another 5 to be run before December with the same groups, after exchanging ideas with Knowle West and Calling The Shots.

The project is to look for ways of working with the many voices and creative people of Easton and Knowle West, to develop workable ideas into a mainstream media production.

Join in the chat forum and give your opinions.

- What about education, jobs, faith and religion, crime and punishment, youth, elders?

- What about your currency, your immigration or even emmigration policy?

- What about culture, arts and creativity, censorship?

- Will Easton have a leader or will in be a co-operative?

- How will decisions be made?

So what do you say?

You can also email us at; indy_easton@yahoo.co.uk

Will be great meeting with you, fellow Citizen!

Take a look at this site
www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com Its a bit sporty for my tastes but they have a shop where devotees can buy silly items of clothing with the PRC logo. Some of the articles are interesting too - try Festival Heads 2006, there's something familiar about it...

Thanks Sarah. That Cork website really interesting, though as you say, a bit too sporty! :-)

If Easton was to become an independent state, there would have to be much more community cohesion and facilities then exist currently. When i first came to Easton, it was a thriving community with a bustling Community Centre, it's own festival and newspaper. Nowadays, we don't have an accessible community centre or any community focus and many resources have been squandered If we had some Community media this could do alot more to pull this disjointed community together. Easton badly needs some strong leadership and focus and no more excuses!

I could be a leader I would not let this pathetic Easton exist but the measures would have to be drastic. I would start with tese over indulged kids, yes KIDS that hang around the park. Give them something to moan about - they are a waste of space and have no community spirit. I think I hate Easton and I used to love it. It is filthy and bitchy. We are breeding the same thing. No respect or love just selfish greed - all about getting something for nothing

All i can said to that is we have be working to do that for 3 years but no one but a small group of members will come to any meeting we sent up. Leadership come from the people 1st and you have to be part of it. Look at ERN website www.eastresnet.org.

Good to see the posting about the residents network website. Shame I've not heard of it before. Perhaps the low profile is why there is such a low turnout at meetings.

If Easton did become an independent state, then one advantage would be to be able to ban the police helicopter over our airspace. Now that would be worth voting for.
